Jon earned a B.S. in Biochemistry from the Indiana University of Pennsylvania. He then attended Harvard University to earn his Ph.D. in Developmental and Regenerative Biology. Jon was mentored and advised by Dr. Leonard Zon, and he studied cellular mechanisms of blood development and blood cancer using zebrafish as a model system.
After his Ph.D., Jon joined the laboratory of Dr. Richard Young at the Whitehead Institute for Biomedical Research at MIT. There, he conducted postdoctoral research discovering how RNA directly regulates its own transcription.
Jon joined the Department of Biological Sciences at Carnegie Mellon University as an Assistant Professor in January 2024.
